The T20 World Cup 2026 is fast approaching. This mega tournament will be held from February 7th to March 8th. India and Sri Lanka will jointly host the tournament. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has taken a crucial step to emerge victorious in this mega tournament (T20 World Cup 2026). They have appointed former Indian fielding coach R Sridhar as their team’s fielding coach.
The Sri Lanka Cricket Board announced this news. It stated that he will also be part of the coaching staff for the upcoming series against England and Pakistan at home. It is understood that the Sri Lankan cricket board has signed a three-month contract with Sridhar. Former captain and legendary player Sanath Jayasuriya is the head coach of the Sri Lankan team.
Sridhar has vast experience in coaching. He served as the fielding coach for the Indian men’s team from 2014 to 2021. Sridhar expressed his happiness at joining the Sri Lankan team and said he is eagerly looking forward to joining the squad.
In the T20 World Cup, the Sri Lankan team is in Group B along with Australia, Ireland, Oman, and Zimbabwe. They will play their first match against Ireland on February 8th at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
